Fireworks will ignite the Houston sky and an array of diverse music will set the stage for an extraordinary patriotic celebration at the City of Houston's official Fourth of July event, Southwest Airlines' Freedom Over Texas featuring 9-time GRAMMY Award winner Sheryl Crow and Martina McBride presented by NRG, scheduled for Thursday, July 4th from 4-10pm.

Parker. "Thanks to Featured Artists Sponsor, NRG, this year our annual July Fourth Celebration will feature two extraordinary talented GRAMMY Award winning artists."

Freedom Stage featured artists, Crow and McBride, will showcase their talents and wow Houston crowds with songs from the past and present. Martina McBride will take the stage first followed by her friend and occasional duet partner, Sheryl Crow.Since the release of her seven-times Platinum, GRAMMY award-winning debute, Tuesday Night Music Club, Sheryl Crow has performed duets with musical luminaries such as Sting and Mick Jagger, released seve studio albums (each charting Top 10, four of them platinum-plus), a quadruple-platinum greatest hits collection and a Christmas album. She has also been nominated for an additoinal 27 GRAMMYs, her most recent for 2008's critically acclaimed Detours. Crow launched her very own clothing line, Bootheel Trading Co., is a cancer survivor, has performed for President Obama and is a passionate support of a variety of environmental and health-related charities, including the NRDC, The Breast Cancer Research Foundation and The World Food Program. Crow has sold more than 35 million records worldwide. Her current single "Easy" is currently Top 40 on the Billboard Hot Country Chart and climbing.
Throughout the day there will be local music from a variety of Houston's best known bands and a few surprise national acts at the main Freedom Stage. KBR Liberty Park will conduct on-site recruiting and showcase military artifacts and vehicles from all five military branches. Patrons will be able to make donations to H.O.T. (Honoring Our Troops) and send a care packet overseas. The Bud Light Zone will showcase the All American Beer Garden and offer a prime view of the ninth annual Bud Light Texas Volleyball Championship Series Finals. More than 30,000 square feet of free educational and entertainment programming will be available for children of all ages in the Walmart All-American Kids Zone. Southwest Airlines will host the Southwest Airlines VIP Hangar and the Sky Stage featuring vintage aircraft from the Lonestar Flight Museum that will make fly-overs throughout the festival. In the Family Fitness Challenge Area, activities will be provided by all five of the Houston's hometown professional sports teams including the Houston Aeros, Houston Astros, Houston Dynamo, Houston Rockets, and Houston Texans.
In keeping with last year's theme, Southwest Airlines Freedom Over Texas with Entertainment provided by NRG will further expand the availability of recycling receptacles to make it easier for attendees to recycle. The City of Houston is committed to supporting green initiatives and promoting sustainability.

The Houston Parks & Recreation Department regulations prohibit dogs, amphibians, reptiles, and snakes that are considered dangerous. Therefore, we require the ban of all such animals. This does not include Seeing Eye dogs or other dogs that provide assistance to physically challenged individuals.
