This marks our second year of covering Freedom Over Texas as press! And we are ever so grateful for the opportunity. This year I covered the event with fellow blogger Marquita Johnson ( You can check out Marquita's street style post on the event HERE.   The official start time for the event was 4pm...of course we arrived at 4:45 pm (What can I say? We love to be fashionably late).  Yet This is of course way better than other people who showed up at 9pm! There are many perks to arriving early to an event like this, including getting the best parking spots and seats next to the main stage.  As usual there was tons to see and do at FOT, from multiple music stages, Budlight's beach bash, food trucks, kid zones, and more! After taking everything in, we headed down to grab our seats close to the stage!
It may look empty in this picture, but was packed by the time the headliner performed! The set-up was a little different this year. Instead of the mainstage being on Allen Parkway, they moved it to the bottom of the hillside. I actually liked this set-up better because it provided way more room for the 1,000s of people that descended on the area throughout the course of the evening.

Arriving early allowed us to snag great seats near the stage!
Ernest Walker Band!
Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee presenting Army Sergeant with a military flag that was flown over the Capital to give to a wounded war veteran in a local Houston Wounded War Veteran Hospital.
Radio DJ's Kevin Kline, Erica Rico and Tim Tuttle from 93Q Houston
Ernest Walker Band getting their groove on to Pharrell's "Happy"
They weren't the only ones! Everyone was jammin'
Budlight's Beach Bash
Even with the ominous clouds, attendees were enjoying the beach!

Mirror/Mirror host Rebecca Spera lead the charge in presenting a wounded war veteran with a fully paid for home along with a year's supply of Dr. Pepper/Snapple beverages!
Starting to become crowded!
First up to perform was Nashville Actor and Singer Charles (Chip) Esten.

Chip introduced Clare Bowen and brought her out on stage to sing a duet! Clare Bowen plays Scarlet O'Connor on the hit ABC show Nashville.

By this time, what was a fairly open & empty space in front of the theater became packed!

While the stage was transitioned for Country Music Superstar, Jennifer Nettles, Mirror/Mirror host Rebecca Spera raffled off this signed Jennifer Nettles guitar to a lucky attendee. I've never had the desire to play the guitar, but I was pretty jealous I didn't win! lol.
Then it was onto the main event: Jennifer Nettles! However, it started to rain as soon as she came on stage, but luckily for us no lightning so the show continued!

Jennifer Nettles is great! She even brought an organ out on stage with her!
Following Jennifer's last number, the fireworks show commenced. It was fabulous as always.  The fireworks went off to popular tunes and some patriotic greats such as "Grand Ol' Flag" and "Anchors Aweigh"!

Marquita and I, repping our red, white & blue stripes for the 4th of July!
